Translational oncology research in animal models

Projects

Description: We study tumor patho-physiology as it is altered due to various experimental therapies. We develop dedicated optical platforms that can be used in small animal imaging and monitoring and work closely with biomedical scientists and clinicians. Two techniques that we currently focus on are diffuse correlation spectroscopy (DCS) and broadband near infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) to monitor hemodynamics and oxygenation in murine tumors in order to track therapy effects, and improve therapy efficiency. This is a multidisciplinary work which is carried out by a collaboration with the groups of Dr. Angels Sierra, and Dr. Oriol Casanovas at the Bellvitge Biomedical Research Institute (IDIBELL).
