Post-doctoral position in Photonics for clinical neurology and neonatalogy

The Medical optics research group led by Prof. Turgut Durduran at ICFO – The Institute of Photonic Sciences in Barcelona, Spain is looking for a highly motivated postdoctoral fellow to work in a multi-disciplinary project working with physicists, neurologists, engineers, biologists and clinicians.

This project is part of one local and one international consortia to develop the next generation diffuse optical neuro-monitor. The consortia has partners from local & international hospitals, medical device industry, photonics component industry as well as academic research groups. We will work closely to design, develop, test/validate a new medical prototype and test it on clinical cases in several hospitals.

Candidates must hold an internationally recognized Ph.D.-equivalent degree (or evidence of its completion in the near future) in a relevant field.

Scientific background: Previous experience with diffuse optics for medicine including instrumentation as well as theoretical background. Knowledge in dynamic light scattering and time resolved spectroscopic methods are a plus. Demonstrated experience in translational research in particular in clinical settings is important. A strong publication record and the contact information of three referees is needed.

Computational background must include advanced Matlab/Octave, C/C++ programming, LabView (or similar hardware control platforms) . Demonstrated strength in other similar programming languages/platforms may replace some of the languages.

Experience with opto-electronic instrumentation including photo-multiplier tubes, avalanche photo diodes, photon-counting hardware, basic micro-controller use is a plus.

Persons with disabilities are strongly encouraged to apply. No restrictions of citizenship or gender apply to the ICFO positions.

The formal application should be submitted online via http://jobs.icfo.eu.

Suitable candidates are requested to submit:
– Presentation letter with a declaration of interest,
– Curriculum Vitae, including full address, a contact phone number and e-mail address,
– The contact e-mail of three potential referees.
Candidates should be willing to be contacted by phone during the selection process.

Candidates may contact icfojobs@nullicfo.eu for informal inquiries regarding the application, as well as address scientific inquiries to Prof. Turgut Durduran at turgut.durduran@nullicfo.eu.

The call will remain open until December 31, 2013, or until suitable candidates are identified.
