A study on cerebral hemodynamics with diffuse optics by ICFO and Hospital de Sant Pau highlighted in OSA’s Spotlight on Optics.
Spotlight on Optics selected a joint paper by the Department of Neurology at Hospital de la Santa Creu i Sant Pau and the Medical Optics Group at ICFO as one of the two highlighted research studies appeared on OSA’s publications last December.
The authors combined near infrared spectroscopy, diffuse correlation spectroscopy and transcranial Doppler technologies to non-invasively assess cerebral vasomotor reactivity in real time. Their results showed that the combined diffuse optics ultrasound technique is viable to follow vasomotor reactivity as well as the relative cerebral metabolic rate of oxygen at the bed-side and in real time. The paper titled “Effects of acetazolamide on the micro and macro-vascular cerebral hemodynamics: a diffuse optical and transcranial doppler ultrasound study” is authored by Dr. Raquel Delgado-Mederos and Dr. Joan Marti-Fabregas, from the Department of Neurology at Hospital de la Santa Creu i Sant Pau; ICFO research fellow Dr. Peyman Zirak and ICFO group leader Prof. Turgut Durduran.
